Publication by Joshi and Werner: Nrf2 is highly expressed in neutrophils, but myeloid cell-derived Nrf2 is dispensable for wound healing in mice

Myeloid Immune cells are crucial in skin wound healing and defense against invading pathogens via their ability to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS). To limit ROS toxicity, these cells exert antioxidant defense strategies like NRF2 transcription factor expression. We show that mouse neutrophils, and to a lesser extent macrophages, strongly express Nrf2 in the blood and wound sites. Through gain or loss of function studies, we reveal that myeloid-derived Nrf2 is dispensable for wound repair.
